We’ve spent a long time considering whether we want to host a workshop in wedding photography. Over the years we’ve seen how workshops can influence the industry in both positive and challenging ways. While many workshops offer stunning styled shoots that help photographers build impressive portfolios, we’ve also noticed that some participants leave without the tools or experience to recreate those results in real wedding scenarios. This can sometimes lead to client disappointment and in certain cases, even a sense of being misled.

We believe a workshop should be about more than just creating beautiful images. It should empower photographers with the knowledge and confidence to deliver those results consistently under real conditions. That includes navigating tricky lighting, tight timelines, unpredictable weather on an actual wedding day. Of course, building a portfolio or shifting toward a new type of client is a valid goal with a workshop but it’s equally important to be able to fulfill the expectations those images set.

With this in mind we’ve chosen to design our workshop in a way that mirrors the realities of a wedding day. We want to contribute to the industry by helping photographers not only grow creatively, but also build trust with clients because ultimately that benefits all of us.
We will spend a day scouting potential locations for our planned photo sessions with our models. This is something we value highly in our own work as it’s always good to have a plan that works in any weather and at any time on a wedding day. We don’t always get the chance to do this the day before but for destination weddings that’s often how we operate. While scouting we’ll discuss the pros and cons of each location and what times or weather conditions they’re best suited for.

The evening before our shoots we’ll sit down as a group to discuss and decide (guided by us) the best spots to photograph at the next day.

Throughout the stay we’ll set aside time for each participant to sit down one-on-one with us (privately, without the group) to talk about anything they feel they’re struggling with or want to develop. In this space you're completely free to choose the topics you want to discuss and we’ll have time slots available for you to book.

One reason we’re combining our workshop with surfing is the opportunity to have fun together and photograph each other in an adventurous environment. We hope you’ll feel inspired by nature, by each other’s achievements and we expect a lot of laughter in the evenings as we reflect on the day through our memories and photographs.
